Record and controversies
Iraq War
Kohl voted for the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq in Oct. 2002.
During the debate over a FY2003 supplemental appropriation for the war in Iraq, Kohl offered an amendment (S.AMDT.455) providing $600 million for food assistance to Iraqi citizens. Supporters, which included all Democrats and nearly half of Senate Republicans, argued that the humanitarian assistance was necessary as a result of attacks on Iraq's infrastructure and the social chaos which followed the U.S. invasion. The amendment passed in a 67-26 vote.

Bio
Kohl was born February 7, 1935 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; he earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1956 and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University in 1958. He served in the United States Army Reserves between 1958 and 1964. He served as the chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party between 1975 and 1977. He has served in the Senate since 1988, and was reelected in 1994 and 2000.
Before his election to the Senate, Kohl helped build his family-owned business, Kohl's grocery and department stores. He served as president from 1970 through the sale of the corporation in 1979. In 1985 he bought the Milwaukee Bucks basketball team. Kohl is one of the nation's wealthiest politicians. Conservative estimates put his wealth at $111 million, while he could be worth more than $250 million. This has inspired his use of the catchphrase "Nobody's Senator but yours" on campaign commercials.
2006 elections
Kohl retained his seat, defeating Republican Robert Lorge and Green Party candidate Rae Vogeler.
