Family and Consumer Choice Act

Fortenberry cosponsored the Family and Consumer Choice Act of 2007 (H.R.2638) with Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.) on June 15, 2007. The bill would give consumers the ability to choose and pay only for channels they want as well as further limit "indecent" programming from being broadcast at certain times of the day.

Bio

Fortenberry was born December 27, 1960 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He holds a Masters degree in Public Policy from Georgetown University. He also received a Masters degree in Theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. [1]

Prior to being elected to the United States Congress, Fortenberry was a member of the Lincoln City Council from 1997-2001. [2] He also worked as "a sales representative with Sandhills Publishing, publishers of Truck Paper, the nation's most circulated publication for buying and selling heavy trucks and trailers." [3]

Congressional career

Fortenberry was elected to the U. S. House of Representatives in 2004, succeeding the more moderate Doug Bereuter, who has resigned earlier that year.

Fortenberry supported President George W. Bush's tax cuts and has said he wants to reduce the deficit. He has also expressed interest in creating a "business investment account" that would give tax breaks for the formation or expansion of small businesses.[4]

"He is a pro-life Catholic who supports a constitutional amendment protecting marriage and opposes research which uses aborted fetal tissue."[5]

2006 elections

In 2006, the Democrats nominated Maxine B. Moul to face Fortenberry in his November 2006 bid for reelection. (See U.S. congressional elections in 2006) [6] Fortenberry retained his seat.

2008 election

In 2008, the Democrats nominated Max Yashirin to face Fortenberry in his bid for reelection. [1]
