KPMG is a global network of accounting firms headquartered in The Netherlands and operating in 148 countries. It is the smallest of the Big Four accounting firms, the others being Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Ernst & Young, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. KPMG provides audit, tax, and advisory services. [1] [2]

History

KPMG was formed in 1987 when Peat Marwick International (PMI) merged with Klynveld Main Goerdeler (KMG). [3]

Political contributions

KPMG gave $960,929 to federal candidates in the 2006 U.S. election through its political action committee - 28% to Democrats and 71% to Republicans. [4]

Lobbying

The company spent $1,690,000 for lobbying in 2006 in the U.S. In-house lobbyists along with outside lobbying firms were used, including Public Strategies, Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw, and Clark & Weinstock. [5]
