McClatchy Newspapers is owned by The McClatchy Company, which, in 2006, "purchased Knight Ridder Inc. to then become the second-largest newspaper publisher in the United States." As of March 2007, The McClatchy Company "owns 31 daily newspapers in 29 U.S. markets." [1]
