The National Republican Senatorial Committee (or NRSC) is the official committee of the Republican Party devoted to electing Republicans to the U.S. Senate.

Role
The NRSC was formed with the primary goal of supporting Republican candidates to the Senate by offering current and prospective candidates support in a number of ways. These include budget planning and compliance guidelines for Federal Election Commission law, fundraising, communications tools and messaging, and a research and strategy center. [1]
Leadership
The chairman of the NRSC is elected every two years by the Republican Senate caucus.
- Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) was selected as chairman of the committee for the 111th Congress. [2]
- Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) was selected to lead the committee during the 110th congress
- Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-N.C.) was selected to lead the committee during the 109th Congress. [3]
Both leaders have come under criticism for failing to recruite major candidates and only raising about half as much money as the Democratic counterpart. This failure is believed to have contributed to the Republican loss in the 2006 elections and slow start for the 2008 elections. [1]
