The 2009 G-20 Pittsburgh summit will be held at the he David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh on September 24-25.[1]

The Obama Administration spokesperson, Robert Gibbs, explained that Pittsburg had been chose by the U.S. government as "I think it's an area that has seen its share of economic woes in the past but because of foresight and investment is now renewed -- giving birth to renewed industries that are creating the jobs of the future. And I think the President believes it would be a good place to highlight some of that."[2]

The Pittsburgh Summitt and climate change

At its April 2009 meeting in London, the G20's 9-page final communique made only a passing mention of climate change. In the second last point of the communique, the G20 leaders confined their concerns to a bland one-sentence statement. They stated that "we reaffirm our commitment to address the threat of irreversible climate change, based on the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, and to reach agreement at the UN Climate Change conference in Copenhagen in December 2009."[3] (See G20 and climate change for more details).
