"Education: Mr. Dieng holds degrees in Law from Dakar University (CFPA) and in International Law from the Research Centre of The Hague Academy of International Law

"Current and Previous Positions: Mr. Dieng's legal career started in Senegal where he held several positions before becoming Registrar of the Supreme Court of Senegal and personal assistant to the President of the Supreme Court (1976-82). He then became involved in the International Commission of Jurists, serving as Legal Officer for Africa (1982-89) Executive Secretary (1989-1990) and Secretary-General from October 1990 - May 2000. In January 2001 UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan appointed Mr Dieng as the Registrar of the International Tribunal for Rwanda. He has worked as a consultant for many international organizations including the Organisation of African Unity, UNESCO, UNITAR, the Ford Foundation, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the United Nations and the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie. He is a member of the Executive Committee of Africa Leadership Forum, Board Member of the International Institute of Human Rights and Council Member of the Observatoire Panafricain de la Démocratie.
