Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC) was established in 1995 to seek government policies favourable to the mineral exploration industry.

Funded entirely by exploration companies (see members), with a heavy influence of uranium hopefuls, being ran in the past by right-wing industry heavy-weight George Savell. [1]

As a general rule AMEC caters for the smaller scale mineral exploration companies who are not members of the Minerals Council of Australia, which is viewed as a the preserve of larger, and usually global, mining companies.
