The Boggabri coal mine is an open-cut coal mine operated by Boggabri Coal Pty Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Idemitsu Australia Resources Pty Ltd. On its website, Idemitsu Australia Resources states that in 2009, 1.55 million tonnes of coal was exported from the Port of Newcastle. The mine is located 17 km north-east of Boggabri in New South Wales.
The project is expected to be commissioned in 2013 and produce an additional 2.8 million tonnes of thermal coal. The project is projected to cost $150m and employ 150 people during construction and 500 when operating.
