Biographical Information

On June 19 2013 it was announced that Brian Stein has received a CBE in the Queen's birthday honours list. "Brian Stein was chief executive of Melton food group Samworth Brothers until his retirement last year. He is also a former chairman of business charity Leicestershire Cares... In November, he was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural Leicester Mercury Business Executive of the Year Awards... Mr Stein still works at Samworth as a consultant a few days a month and has recently taken up a couple of non-executive directorships. Mr Stein was replaced by Lindsey Pownall, who had followed him to Samworth from rival Northern Foods 17 years ago." [1]

"He joined them as group managing director from Northern Foods in 1995, when Samworth Brothers had sales of £90m. He became chief executive in 2002, and after 10 years in the role sales had grown to £850m." [1]
