The Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) "was organized in 1989 as a private, non-stock, non-profit organization involving different sectors in the task of building up the press and news media as a pillar of democratic society. Its programs uphold press freedom, promote responsible journalism and encourage journalistic excellence.

"CMFR provides a forum for analysis and discussion of professional and ethical issues facing journalists in the Philippines. Its flagship publication, Philippine Journalism Review, monitors press coverage and analyzes media issues." [1]

They are part of the CIPE Reform Network. [2]

In 2005, CMFR won the Atlas Economic Research Foundation's Templeton Freedom Award. [3]
