The Coalition Against Cervical Cancer was launched in March 2007 at the 'First Global Summit on Cervical Cancer', a event held in Paris and funded by Sanofi Pasteur MSD, the company which has the European license to market Merck's Gardasil.

A media release, which was distributed to accompany a video news release, stated that "internationally well known women from 17 countries, including Olympic gymnast champion Nadia Comaneci, Olympic fencing champion Laura Flessel and Wimbledon tennis champion Gabriela Sabatini, joined forces with UNESCO, the International Union Against Cancer (UICC), the Club Européen de la Santé (ECS), and the International Federation of Gynecology & Obstetrics (FIGO), to form a Coalition Against Cervical Cancer (CACC)."
