The Cook Colliery is located in central Queensland’s Bowen Basin. Cook Colliery is an existing mine which "produces hard coking, semi-soft and thermal coal products primarily for the export market. The colliery’s operating company, Cook Resource Mining Pty Ltd (CRM), is owned by Xstrata (95%) and Tokyo Boeki (5%)."
Xstrata Coal states on its website that in June 2006 it announced "the partial sale of its Cook Colliery for a cash payment of A$45.6m to Caledon Resources plc (Caledon). Caledon was granted a sub-lease to mine the Southern region and accepted responsibility for the rehabilitation of the area. Cook Resources Mining Pty Ltd retained exclusive ownership of the Northern Region for exploration."
