Biographical Information

"Dr David Hemery CBE is the founder of 21st Century Legacy and co-author of the Be the Best you can Be! Programme. He is best known for his days in sport both as Olympic Champion and World Record Holder in the 400m hurdles (Mexico 1968) and later three times winner of the BBC's Superstars. "Since then David has been a coach, Teacher, leader and writer and after being President of UK Athletics is now Vice- Chair of the British Olympic Association.

"He received a BSc in Business Administration from Boston University, a Certificate of Education in Economics and RE from Oxford University, a Masters in International Education from Harvard and a Doctorate in Education and Social Psychology from Boston University. He is also the author of five books, including 'Sporting Excellence' and 'How To Help Children Find The Champion Within Themselves'.

"In November 2011, David became the first Briton to be awarded the European Olympic Laurel Award.

"David has a strong belief that there is a spark of greatness, something specialand unique in everyone. He created and co-authored the Be the Best you can Be! Programme to enable young people to discover the unique potential within themselves and inspire, engage and empowerthem to pursue and fulfil their dreams, torealise their spark of greatness.

"He founded 21st Century Legacy to deliver the Be the Best you can Be! Programme as a result of Lord Sebastian Coe's request to him to have a Legacy that went beyond 2012 and the buildings in London. The promise was that our Olympic Games would be an inspiration to the youth of Britain and the rest of the world."[1]
