Eric Newton

Joined the Knight Foundation "in June 2001 as Director of Journalism Initiatives and promoted to Vice President in December 2006. Founding managing editor of the Newseum, where he created and coordinated the content for the first museum of news. Former managing editor of the Oakland Tribune under the ownership of Bob and Nancy Maynard, when the newspaper won 150 journalism awards, including a Pulitzer Prize. Edited weekly and small daily newspapers. Taught high school, college and journalism professionals. Edited numerous books, including Crusaders, Scoundrels, Journalists: The Newseum's Most Intriguing Newspeople; Capture the Moment: The Pulitzer Prize Photographs and News in a New America. Four-time Pulitzer Prize juror.

"Founding president of the First Amendment Project, a nonprofit law firm representing citizens seeking access to government records. Earned master's degree in international studies from the University of Birmingham, England and a bachelor'’s degree in journalism at San Francisco State University. Shared in 2004 Peabody award for "Mosaic: World News from the Middle East." Member of the Advisory Council for International Media Assistance for the National Endowment for Democracy." [1]
