Gallup, best known for its polls, was founded originally in 1935 by Dr. George Gallup as the American Institute of Public Opinion, and is now known as the Gallup Organization.[1] Gallup has been studying human nature and behavior for over 75 years.[2]

Gallup employs 2,000 professionals, and employs many of the world's top scientists in management, psychology, economics, and sociology. It is comprised of four separate companies, Gallup Daily News, Gallup Consulting, Gallup University, and Gallup Press.[2] Its current CEO is James (Jim) Clifton.[3]

Intent

As George Gallup once stated, and Gallup considers its core mission, "If democracy is supposed to be based on the will of the people, then somebody should go out and find out what that will is."[4] Gallup considers its "single, chosen, ethical principle" to be independence from outside interests.[5]

Ownership

In October 1988, following the death of its founder, Gallup was merged with Selection Research Incorporated, whose head, James Clifton, became Gallup's new CEO. Following this, the company's business volume multiplied tenfold with expansion into 20 other countries.[6]
