In October 2006, GenPower, LLC (“GenPower”) and First Reserve Corporation (“First Reserve”), a leading global private equity firm, formed GenPower Holdings, LP (“the Company”), to pursue the development, ownership, acquisition and operation of power generation facilities in the United States and abroad.

The first plant to be financed by the new entity is the Longview Plant coal project, a supercritical, pulverized coal-fired generating facility located in Maidsville, West Virginia.[1]

Power portfolio

The Longview Plant project is the company's first power plant.[2] The 695 MW plant went into operation in April 2011, making it the first new coal-fired power plant to start up in West Virginia in 18 years. Longview’s coal will come from an adjacent Mepco mine, in Pennsylvania. Longview is expected to burn about 2 million tons of coal per year.[3]
