Hazel M. McFerson

Hazel McFerson "is an associate professor in the Department of Public and International Affairs and an associate of the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University. Dr. McFerson has over thirty years’ experience in teaching, consulting, and university administration, including as associate director of Academic Affairs at the Massachusetts Board of Regents of Higher Education. She has taught at the University of the South Pacific, Southeastern Massachusetts University, and the University of Maryland at College Park, and was a recipient of a Fulbright award for teaching and research at the University of Asia and the Pacific in the Philippines.

"Dr. McFerson is former chair of the board of the Albert Einstein Institution for Strategic Nonviolence and a former advisor to the University of Asia and the Pacific. Her areas of expertise include gender, ethnicity, identity and development, African politics, comparative government, and conflict analysis and management. Her published books include: "The Racial Dimension of American Overseas Colonial Policy" (Greenwood 1997), "Mixed Blessing: The Impact of American Colonial Policy on Society and Politics in the Philippines" (Greenwood 2002), and "Blacks and Asians: Crossings, Conflict and Commonality", (Carolina Academic Press, forthcoming Fall 2005). She holds a Ph.D. in politics from Brandeis University, an M.A. from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, and a B.A. in sociology from the University of Massachusetts in Boston." [1]
