Henry A.J. Ramos "is principal of Mauer Kunst Consulting, a private consulting group that specializes in strategic planning, project management, program development/assessment, and research activities targeted to business, foundation, and nonprofit institutions. His current and recent clients include the Carnegie Corporation of New York; the Ford Foundation; Open Society Institute; Levi Strauss & Co.; the Council on Foundations; the California Wellness Foundation; the California Endowment; The David & Lucile Packard Foundation; the W.K. Kellogg Foundation; Nike, Inc; Union Bank of California; Univision; and the New York Regional Association of Grantmakers.

"In recent years, Mr. Ramos has written extensively on various issues related to civil society and the nonprofit sector, and his work and opinions have been quoted in leading national publications including The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times. His most recent publications include The American GI Forum: In Pursuit of the Dream, 1948-1983 (an historical recount of the nation’s oldest and largest Latino veterans/civil rights organization) and Nuevos Senderos: Reflections on Hispanics and Philanthropy, both published by the University of Houston’s Arte Público Press. Currently he serves as executive editor of Arte Público Press’s Hispanic Civil Rights Book Series, a multi-volume series of books supported by national funders including the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation, to expand public appreciation of Latino contributions to post-World War II U.S. civil rights.

"Ramos is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and Harvard University, where he earned degrees in political economics, law, and public administration. He is founding editor of the Harvard Journal of Hispanic Policy, a former Robert Bosch Foundation fellow in Germany, and a past member of the professional staffs of the New York-based Ford Foundation and the California-based James Irvine Foundation. Currently he sits on the boards of directors of the Mexican Museum of San Francisco, the National Asian Pacific American Legal Consortium, the Soros/Emma Lazarus Fund, Partners for Democratic Change, and Hispanics in Philanthropy.
