Founded in October 1997, the not-for-profit Institute for Religious Values describes itself as an "ecumenical organization designed to increase religious expression at home and end religious persecution abroad".

The Institute appears to consist of one person, Christopher Gersten. Gersten is the husband of conservative political commentator Linda Chavez. The Institute was funded primarily by the Bradley Foundation from 1998 to 2000, and appears to have not received any funding from conservative organizations since then.

The Catholic Priests For Life organization describes to the Institute for Religious Values as "a prolife voice within the Jewish community". [1]

The Institute has repeatedly lobbied Congress to restrict partial birth abortions.
