Introducing Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation Kool Lights & Ultras

This 1982 Brown & Williamson training manual (found in the R.J. Reynolds document collection) explains to employees how to target blue collar workers for free cigarette giveaways (also called "sampling").

The manual explains what might not be obvious to a novice targeter:

Obviously, hospitals, medical centers, doctor's offices, government buildings, health or law offices should not be sampled. If a mobile X-RAY unit is stationed at your location, move to a new area...

Workers are counseled not to alter their company-supplied green jumpsuits, to avoid having photographs taken of themselves, and to target factories, bowling alleys, fish fries, bingo games, union meetings and VFW halls in an effort to ferret out blue collar workers.
