Japan Coal Energy Centre
Japan Coal Energy Centre is a Tokyo-headquartered trade association and research organisation. JCOAL describes its role as to support "the development, commercialization, transfer and dissemination of coal technologies and the human resource development, in order to ensure the international coal supply and the harmonization with the environment."
On its website JCOAL states that to "ensure a stable supply and sustainable utilization of coal, we need to make efforts to meet the increasing coal demand in the Asia-Pacific region and to ensure the harmonization with the environment by, for instance, controlling the global warming."
Its members include major Japanese coal mining companies as well as those in the metals and power generation industries.
On its website, JCOAL states that its international activities include the training of engineers "from the coal producing developing-countries". It also states that "to promote and disseminate "Clean Coal Technology" in the APEC region, JCOAL is implementing Clean Coal Technology Transfer Projects for the training to engineers from the APEC countries in Japan, related to the coal utilization, the coal quality control and environmental preservation."
