Jay Mazur
Jay Mazur "is President Emeritus of UNITE (Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees), Chairman of the Amalgamated Bank of New York and President of the ILGWU 21St Century Heritage Foundation, in addition to maintaining active membership on boards and in a leadership capacity of a number of other organizations.
"He became President Emeritus of UNITE on July 1, 2001, after stepping down as President of the union. He was the first President of UNITE and served continuously in that position from the time of his election on June 29, 1995. He previously served as President of the ILGWU from 1986 to 1995 and as General Secretary-Treasurer of the ILGWU from 1983 to 1986. He was a Vice-President of the AFL-CIO from 1986 to 2001, and chaired its International Affairs Committee from 1996 to 2001. He was a member of the President's Labor Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations (ACTPN) and has represented the American labor movement in dozens of countries around the world, helping democratic labor movements in those countries develop leadership and expertise. He has been a member of the Holocaust Memorial Council and of the US-South Africa Business Development Committee.
"He has a B.A. in Industrial Relations from the City University of New York and a Masters Degree from Rutgers University." [1]
In 1992 (at least) he was an officer of the American Institute for Free Labor Development, Free Trade Union Institute, African-American Labor Center, and the Asian-American Free Labor Institute.
He has also been a member of the League for Industrial Democracy.
