John A. Allison is the president and CEO of the Koch brothers-founded and -funded Cato Institute. Prior to joining Cato, Allison was the CEO of BB&T Corp., one of the largest financial services holding companies in the United States. He started at BB&T in 1971 and served as CEO from July 1989 until December 2008.
The Koch brothers -- David and Charles -- are the right-wing billionaire co-owners of Koch Industries. As two of the richest people in the world, they are key funders of the right-wing infrastructure, including the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and the State Policy Network (SPN).
