John Maitland was the National Secretary of the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) until his retirement in July 2006.[1]

  • According to a Sydney Morning Herald report he also has "a significant shareholding in a Guildford Coal project in Queensland's Bowen Basin";[2]
  • is a member of the 'advisory board' of Hong Kong-listed North Asia Resources, a iron ore and copper exploration company with interests in Mongolia.[3]
  • in March 2012 Maitland's company, Jonca Investments bought a 5.15% shareholding in Stratum Metals for $125,150.[4] Stratum Metals is predominantly an exploration company with interests in gold and copper-gold projects. However, it also has an interest in the Canning Basin Coal Project in the Kimberley region in Western Australia.
