John Ogden, Ph.D.

"As Director of the Florida Institute of Oceanography and Professor of Integrative Biology at the University of South Florida, Ogden oversees operations of two oceanographic research ships and a marine laboratory and coordinates inter-institutional ocean research. He previously served as Director of the West Indies Laboratory of Fairleigh Dickinson University in St. Croix in the Virgin Islands and operated the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration saturation diving facility Hydrolab. Ogden has published more than 100 scientific papers, contributed to numerous books and produced several television films on tropical ecosystems. As a friend of SeaWeb since its inception, Ogden has served as an important voice from the scientific community in a number of its media outreach efforts. Currently, he serves on the NOAA Marine Protected Area Federal Advisory Committee, the Florida Oceans and Coastal Council and is involved in policy and research directed at the conservation of tropical and sub-tropical biodiversity with NOAA, the National Science Foundation, the Department of State, The World Bank, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and numerous private foundations. Ogden is a graduate of Princeton University, has a Ph.D. from Stanford University and is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science." [1]
