Biographical Information

In March 2012 it was reported that: "Astra said it had nominated Leif Johansson, currently Ericsson chairman, to succeeed Louis Schweitzer, who intends to retire in September after eight years in the role. Mr Johansson helped steer Volvo through a dramatic plunge in the vehicles market in the wake of the financial crisis. His appointment comes as Astra faces its own battle to prop up its pipeline of new medicines as some of its best-selling drugs lose their patent protection. Analysts point out that drug makers, which are seeking to curb costs, have been turning to the car industry to learn from its lean production processes. Selecting the 60-year-old Swede as its next chairman will also strengthen the company's Nordic origins, having been formed out of the merger of Britain's Zeneca and Sweden's Astra in 1999. "[1]
