Leighton Asia is a part of the Leighton Group, which describes itself as "Australia’s largest project development and contracting group". On its website the company states that it operates in Hong Kong, Macau, China, Mongolia, Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.[1]

Coal interests

Leighton Asia is operating the Khushuut mine is an open cut coking coal mine in Mongolia for Mongolia Energy Corporation, a Hong Kong listed public company. The mine, has a projected life of 19 years mine life with production at 8 million tonnes per annum, is currently being brought up to full production.[2]

The company is also operating the Ulaan Ovoo coal mine and the Ukhaakhudag coal mine (UHG) and the construction of the UHG Coal Haul Road.[3]
