Mayra Buvinic "a Chilean national and internationally respected expert on gender and development, is the World Bank's senior spokesperson on gender and development issues. Before joining the Bank in 2005, she was Chief of the Social Development Division at the Inter-American Development Bank, where she oversaw the Women in Development Unit, Indigenous Peoples Unit, and staff working on health, housing and urban issues, labor markets, and social inclusion. Ms. Buvinic was also the IDB's Special Advisor on Violence. Prior to this, she was a founding member and President of the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW)." [1]

"She is a founding member of the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) and from 1978 until 1996 held the position of President. During 1990 and 1991, she was associated with the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean in Santiago, Chile, as ICRW Senior Fellow.

"Ms. Buvinic has published extensively in the areas of poverty and gender, employment promotion, small enterprise development, and reproductive health.

"She is past member of various Nonprofit Boards, such as the International Irrigation Management Institute (Sri Lanka) and the Board of Trustees of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (Nigeria)." [2]
