Raymond Bryant

"For the past fifteen years Rev. W. Raymond Bryant has served as a pastor in the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church. He has been most recently assigned to the St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Dallas, Texas.

"Rev. Bryant is heavily involved in education, and St. Paul A.M.E. Church has adopted a public school in which they maintain a physical presence by participating in reading programs, the PTA, mentoring, and tutoring. They are dedicated to helping children know they are not alone.

"Rev. Bryant is keenly interested in developing better schools for our children and believes we are past due for some major changes in the way education is delivered. “I am interested in building a strong community where the members are not afraid to step out of their doors and experience their community. Children are our future, and we must show them we love them by providing a safe environment for them to grow, to learn, and to develop into the people God created them to be.” Limited involvement in politics helps Rev. Bryant stay abreast of legislation pertaining to education. He is a proponent of charter schools and school choice, and he believes that parents need to have more authentic choices about where their children will be educated. He spends one day each week in a school, demonstrating his caring concern for children. Rev. Bryant is a board member of Park South YMCA (currently serving as board chairman) and of Paul Quinn College. He also serves as president of the Dallas chapter of the Black Alliance for Educational Options (BAEO) and as treasurer for both the BAEO national board and the Davidson- Houston Academy.

"Rev. Bryant is a member of the Congress of National Black Churches (CNBC) and serves as the vice president of the Greater Dallas Affiliate of CNBC. He is also a member of the African American Museum board of directors.

"In 1977 Rev. Bryant graduated from Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, and later received his bachelor’s degree from the University of New York. He received a master of divinity degree in 1995 and a ministry doctorate in 1998 from the Houston Graduate School of Theology.

"Rev. Bryant and his wife, Cathy, have been married twenty years. Cathy Bryant is a lifelong member of the A.M.E. Church, and she brought Rev. Bryant into the church in 1980. Their teenage son, William, is currently a high school senior." [1]
