Biography

Richard A. Daynard was a law professor in Boston, Massachusetts (MA). The address is Tobacco Products Liability Project, Northeastern University School of Law, 400 Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02115, Head of the Tobacco Products Liability Project, Northeastern University School of Law, Boston, MA (1984-present). (W) 617-373-3343; (F) 617-373-3672. He was the Professor of Law at Northeastern University School of Law (1969-present). He was Editor-in-Chief of Tobacco Products Litigation Reporter (TPLR). TLP is "a Rockefeller Fundraiser supported clearinghouse for plaintiffs' lawyers at the Northeastern University Law School" (Jenkins, p. 117). He is an expert on the Cipollone documents, nicotine addiction, history of tobacco litigation, and applicable law. He sat as a committee member in the Castano litigation.

Daynard's webpage at Northeastern Univ. states, "Professor Daynard is at the forefront of an international movement to establish the legal responsibility of the tobacco industry for tobacco-induced death, disease and disability. He is president of the law school's Public Health Advocacy Institute and chair of its Tobacco Products Liability Project. He is also an international leader in combating the obesity epidemic."

This May 28, 2009 press release, Researching how tobacco and food companies shift blame to consumer states, "A $2.7 million grant from the National Cancer Institute will fund research on how the tobacco, fast-food and sweetened-beverage industries use and exploit the concept of personal responsibility and choice, and the resulting effect on public health. The five-year project, led by Northeastern University law professor and leading public health advocate Richard Daynard, will analyze legal and regulatory forums, advertising, public relations efforts and the news media."
