"Richard is Co-founder of Comic Relief. He has co-produced the ten nights of Comic Relief for the BBC on Red Nose Day which, along with Sport Relief, have so far raised over half a billion pounds.

In 2007 American Idol made "Idol Gives Back" as a two-night special to benefit children and young people in need in American and Africa. "When we were approached by Richard Curtis, Simon Fuller, Simon Cowell and CPEF about this project, we felt it was a natural fit, said Peter Chernin, president and chief operating officer, News Corporation." Money raised was distributed via Charity Projects Entertainment Fund "to a number of organizations, including U.S. Fund for UNICEF, The Global Fund, Save the Children, Nothing but Nets and Malaria No More. " [2]

He is married to Emma Freud.
