Dr. Richard Joseph "is director of the Program of African Studies and John Evans Professor of Political Science at Northwestern University. He has devoted his career to understanding democracy, development and conflict resolution in Africa. Formerly director of the African Governance Program at the Carter Center and Asa G. Candler Professor of Political Science at Emory University, he is the author and editor of numerous books, including State, Conflict, and Democracy in Africa (1999). During his fellowship, Dr. Joseph worked on a book on state crisis and democratic development." [1]
