Biography

"Robin Birley's members' club 5 Hertford Street is the only place to go if you want to see or be seen in London. Robin is the son of the late Sir Mark Birley and Lady Annabel Goldsmith and the half-brother of Zac, Ben and Jemima Goldsmith. He is also married to Lucy Helmore (Bryan Ferry's ex), making him the best-connected man in London. No wonder he escapes to his farm in Shropshire so often. Famously shy and retiring, he's inherited his father's genius for clubs and is utterly devoted to his whippets."[1]

He was educated at Eton College. Birley stood as a candidate for the Referendum Party, founded by his stepfather Sir James Goldsmith with the aim of creating a referendum on UK membership in the European Union. In the early 1990s, Birley was president of the Mozambique Institute, which supported Renamo, a conservative political party sponsored by the white minority government in Rhodesia and later by the apartheid regime in South Africa. In 2005, Birley financed David Davis (UK)' bid to become the leader of the United Kingdom's Conservative Party. Since his dismissal, Birley has concentrated on his company Envirotrade, which sells Plan Vivo community carbon credits. wiki
