Professor Ross Garnaut is currently a director of the Lowy Institute and head of the Department of Economics at the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, Australian National University. In 2005, it appears that he was a member of the Pacific Asian group of the Trilateral Commission.[1]
Since 1995, Professor Garnaut has been a member of the Lihir Gold Board on which he currently serves as the Chairman. He is also Chairman of Sequoia Capital Management Limited, Chairman of PNG Sustainable Development Program Limited, and a director of Ok Tedi Mining Ltd. In the past he was also a Chairman of the Bank of Western Australia Ltd and Chairman of the Primary Industry Bank of Australia Ltd. [2]
He was Senior Economic Adviser to Australian Prime Minister Robert Hawke, and subsequently served as Australia’s Ambassador to China. He is also a Chairman of Lonely Planet Publications Pty Ltd; and former Chairman of the Bank of Western Australia Ltd and of the Primary Industry Bank of Australia Ltd. Dr Garnaut also served as First Assistant Secretary responsible for financial and economic policy in the Department of Finance in Port Moresby in 1975 and 1976. [3]
In April 2007 Professor Garnaut was commissioned by Kevin Rudd to conduct a study into the economics of climate change. [4]
