News and Controversies

Supporting University With Ties to White Nationalism and Election Denial

In a May 2022 report, It was discovered that the Benson Center at the University of Colorado had numerous ties to far-right groups. The university has great ties to John Eastman, who was the lawyer at the center of Donald Trump's attempted coup in the aftermath of the 2020 election. The university has come under fire for its " founder’s ties to white nationalism and prominent racists, the far-right views of multiple Benson Center figures, and the support the center receives from public funds." The Snider Foundation has contributed $527,541 to the institution in recent years. [4]

Snider Combined Funding with Koch Foundation to Create New Center at University of Maryland's Business School

In 2014, Ed Snider pledged $5 million to create the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets at The University of Maryland. The Koch Foundation contributed $1 million toward the project, allowing UM to "hire three professors and a managing director, in addition to support staff, five doctoral candidates and four post-doctoral fellows."[5]

Ed Snider Helped Found Ayn Rand Institute, Served on Atlas Society Board, Produced Movies Based on Atlas Shrugged

After Snider's death in 2016, Ayn Rand Institute founder David Kelley wrote, "Ed [Snider] was instrumental in starting the Ayn Rand Institute in 1985. After I founded The Atlas Society, he joined our board in 1995 and served until 2009. His impact was enormous; in addition to his major financial support he contributed his business acumen to board decisions."[6]

Snider produced Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011) as well as Atlas Shrugged: Who is John Galt? (2014), parts of a movie trilogy adapted from Ayn Rand's book Atlas Shrugged.[7]
