The Sunni branch of Islam is practiced by most Muslims. Accordingly this includes extremely diverse groups, some of which reject most of each other's practices: Wahabist, Sufi, and the five classical schools of fiqh are all usually considered sunni, which is named for the sunnah.

It is usually contrasted to the minority Shia and variant Khawarij branches - also, not all Sunnis consider Sufis to be Sunnis, but some branches scorn Ismailis or other minority groups. The diversity of Sunni sects is in some ways similar to the diversity of Protestant Christian churches.
