The Sustainable Development Institut (SDI) "was initiated in 2002. It was originally established within the Save My Future Foundation (SAMFU) as a research project. It is now registered and incorporated and the Liberian government Ministry of Planning and Economic Affairs has accredited it to function as a non-governmental organization." [1]

In 2007, SDI received a $29,900 grant from the NED "To build leadership capacity within community-based organizations and citizen groups to engage elected officials and members of local government to defend human and environmental rights. SDI will organize six public forums, two in each county, on the National Forestry Reform Law." [2]
