____ "When Vice President Dick Cheney comes out of seclusion to brand critics "irresponsible," you know the administration is in trouble." [1]

I moved the following sentence to the Talk page. I don't think the sexual orientation of a politician's relative is relevant for an encyclopedia of propaganda. Whether Cheney approves or disapproves of her sexual orientation, she is an adult making her own choices. --Sheldon Rampton 20:37 22 Mar 2003 (EST)

In 2000 it was revealed that his 31-year-old daughter Mary was a lesbian.

Query from reader: What is the documentation for the continuing funds from Halliburton? I have looked through Halliburton's annual report and did not find anything. However, I have heard that he is "on leave." Further information will be appreciated.

From the Berrigan article below, "Is Dick Cheney still on Halliburton's payroll? Even though he supposedly sold off his assets when he moved to Washington, the vice president's financial records reveal he is receiving between $100,000 and $1 million in "deferred compensation" from the company where he served as CEO for five years."

The following was deleted June 2, 2005, by one-time user IP 66.140.173.68 from the Dick Cheney article with the comment "This sort of quackery gives Sourcewatch a bad name." The citation is from the From the Wilderness website, a quote attributed to Michael C. Ruppert, the owner of the online newsletter:

Richard Cheney has been named as the prime suspect in the mass murders of 9/11 by Michael Ruppert in his well researched book "Crossing The Rubicon: The Decline Of The American Empire At The End Of The Age Of Oil" as given in a speech before the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco on August 31, 2004.

The original entry was made December 23, 2004, by user IP 24.31.29.127, and tidied by Maynard the same day. To date, the entry has remained unchallenged.

Having read through Ruppert's speech, and his assurances that his claims are backed by overwhelming research and documentation cited in the footnotes of his book Crossing the Rubicon, I see no reason to delete the citation.

In naming the inclusion of this citation in SW as "This sort of quackery," the user fails to back up his/her statement with any proof that Ruppert's claim is false or cannot be substantiated.

IMO, the citation should be reinstated. Artificial Intelligence 06:52, 2 Jun 2005 (EDT)

I agree with the criticism of the deleted passage and think the deletion should stand. I'm familiar with Michael Ruppert's work and find it full of implausibilities, inconsistencies and claims for which his evidence is thin, speculative. The fact that Rupper himself claims that his work is backed by overwhelming research is no real assurance, because it consists simply of Ruppert praising himself. (It's not much different from someone like George W. Bush saying, "I'm honest, so you can trust me.") --Sheldon Rampton 10:58, 2 Jun 2005 (EDT)

Gladly bow to your expertise, Sheldon, as you obviously know much more about him than I .. Artificial Intelligence 14:17, 2 Jun 2005 (EDT)

Mr. Cheney opposed the Equal Rights Amendment, is an anti-abortion advocate, and supports prayer in school. While serving in Congress, he was one of 21 members opposing the sale ban of armor-piercing bullets; was one of only four to oppose the ban on guns that can get through metal detectors; opposed sanctions against the apartheid-era South Africa in the mid-1980s along with voting against a resolution calling for the release of Nelson Mandela; voted for a constitutional amendment to ban school busing; voted against Head Start; and voted against extending the Clean Water Act in 1987.

Cheney has ties to the Carlyle Group, served on the Advisory Board of the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA), and has been linked to the Project for the New American Century (PNAC).

He evidently sees no conflict of interest between taking this paycheck and participating in White House decisions that have allocated billions of dollars of bids to Halliburton that have not gone to open tender.

this was rather self-evident

A neo-conservative and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations,

no reference on the CFR bit

His persistent embroglio in the Junior Bush regime has been with his Energy Task Force through which during the early months of 2001 he was taking dictation from Enron and studying petro maps of Iraq, and wants to keep all those notes a secret.

I've shifted the links to other Cheney case studies to their own section so I'm not sure we need this here as well.

In honor of Big Business Day 2003, Citizen Works presented Dick Cheney the "Daddy Warbucks" Award for eminence in corporate war profiteering on Friday, April 4. [2]
