The Century Foundation Homeland Security Project, initiated after September 11, 2001, is a liberal think tank providing policy recommendations and producing explanatory issue briefs and longer publications on issues related to homeland security.

Originally organized around three high-level working groups on (1) the federal response, (2)federalism issues, and (3) the public's need to know, the project has since expanded to address immigration challenges as well as issues related to bioterrorism and public health preparedness.

The Century Foundation Homeland Security Project is a project of the Century Foundation, and is supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the James L. and John S. Knight Foundation.

In 2002, President George W. Bush selected then-co-chair of the Project Thomas Kean to lead the 9-11 Commission, which studied the September, 11 2001 attacks on New York and Washington.[1]
