Wayne Osborn

In 2005: Thiess Pty Limited "appointed Mr Wayne Osborn, to the Board of Directors. Through a career spanning thirty years in the Australian mining, resources and manufacturing sectors, Wayne has contributed to Australias export development and in particular growth of significant markets in the Asia Pacific region. He is currently Managing Director of Alcoa World Alumina Australia. Wayne started his career in the iron ore industry in the mid 1970s. He graduated as an Electrical Engineer from the Gordon Institute of Technology in Geelong, and holds an MBA from Deakin University. After joining Alcoa in 1979 during a period of expansion, Wayne worked at the companys Portland Aluminium Smelter during the 1980s. As General Manager of Alcoa Rolled Products in the 1990s, Wayne led the expansion of Alcoas aluminium rolled products into dynamic new markets in the South Pacific and in particular China. From 1994 Wayne served as Location Manager of one of the companys three WA Alumina Refineries and in 1997 was appointed Managing Director of Alcoa and Kobe Steels aluminium rolling joint venture.. Since 2001, Wayne has been in the role of Managing Director of Alcoa World Alumina and has positioned the company as one of Australias leading corporates. Wayne is currently the Chair of the Australian Aluminium Council and is playing a key role in leading the industry in sustainability initiatives. He is also actively involved as a Board Member of the Australian Business Arts Foundation, and serves as Chair of the WA Chapter." [1]
