William A. Dembski is associate research professor in the conceptual foundations of science at Baylor University and a senior fellow with Discovery Institute’s Center for the Renewal of Science and Culture in Seattle. He is also the Academic Editor of Foundation for Thought and Ethics.

Dembski has been described as "the chief Wedge intellectual" of the intelligent design movement.

Barbara Forrest, a professor of philosophy at Southeastern Louisiana University and analyst of the creationist movement, is a critic of Dembski's claims.

Dembski, who has no science credentials, claims to have developed a test for detecting intelligently designed complexity in biological systems, but he has never made a successful attempt to show how it works and ignores requests to produce data that might enable others to do it.
... As early as 1992, Dembski stipulated that when he spoke of an intelligent designer, he was referring to a "supernatural intelligence."
...In a 1999 article for the Christian magazine Touchstone, Dembski confirmed the foundation of ID in John 1 when he assured readers that "Indeed, intelligent design is just the Logos theology of John’s Gospel restated in the idiom of information theory." [In his book he writes] "God speaks the divine Logos to create the world." He even specifies in this book about ID that God must be male!
