Director Emeritus of the Institute of Race Relations "and advisory editor of Race & Class, the journal he founded. He was Director of the IRR from 1973-2013 and is one of the foremost thinkers on racism, globalisation and black history in the UK. His books, Catching history on the wing and novel on Sri Lanka, When Memory Dies are available. The ‘Sivanandan Collection’ of books, journals and pamphlets on race relations from 1964-2000, when he was chief librarian at the IRR, can be consulted at the University of Warwick Ethnicity and Migration Collections.
