Biographical Information

"Alastair Balls, CB is the Chairman of Newcastle’s International Centre for Life, the £70-million ‘science village’ formed in conjunction with the Universities of Newcastle and Durham, combining research in the life sciences, IVF and genetics clinics, technology transfer and commercial applications, bioethics and effective science communication. Previously he was Chief Executive of Tyne and Wear Development Corporation.

"Alastair became Chairman of Northern Rock Foundation in January 2006. He is also Chairman of the Alzheimer’s Society. Alastair is a member of the Higher Education Funding Council for England, Chair of CELS Limited and a trustee of the Northumbrian Water Pension Board."[1]
