"On the 15th of November 2007, Rio Tinto Canada Holding, an indirect owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto – one of the biggest mining corporation in the world – acquired all of the common shares of Alcan world leading producer of aluminium. This makes now the new Rio Tinto Alcan the biggest producer of aluminium in the world." [1]

Alcan Prize for Sustainability

" Alcan and the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) are pleased to announce that the winner of the 2006 US$1 million Alcan Prize for Sustainability is India’s Barefoot College. The Alcan Prize annually recognizes NGOs, not-for-profit, and civil society organizations working to build sustainable societies around the world. The Alcan Prize is managed independently by the IBLF." [4]
