"Anthony St John, a qualified solicitor with a Masters in Maritime Law from London University, has been a Crossbench Member of the House of Lords since 1979 and was appointed as the Extra Lord-in-Waiting to HM The Queen in 1999.

"Having worked for Shell South Africa in internal audit, retail network and legal, Lord St John joined stockbrokers Fielding Newson and Smith in 1985 and then County NatWest Securities, in London, as their oil analyst and later as a specialist in oil sales. Lord St John is a consultant to Merrill Lynch, a position he has held since 1991, specialising in parliamentary liaison and the emerging markets.

Anthony is currently the Chairman of Governing Board of Certification International, providers of ISO 9000 Quality Management Systems. In 2003, he was appointed as a non-executive director of Regal Petroleum plc, a fully listed LSE company. Since 2003, Anthony has been a Strategic Adviser to 2e2 PLC, an innovative IT services and solutions provider specialising in managed and shared services for public and private sector.

Lord St John is also the non-executive Chairman of Spiritel PLC, a telecommunications service and solutions provider, a position he has held since 2004.

As the President of the South African Business Club in the UK and Friends of South Africa and the Chairman of Affinity Plus, a club for SA residents in the UK, Anthony is a regular speaker on African affairs, deregulation, European Union, financial services and information technology.

Lord St John is Trustee of the Tusk Trust, Citizens-online, the Life Neurological Research Trust and Tree, and the Ma’Afrika Tikkun and Alexandra Rose charities and a director of the Oxford Philomusica, a UK charity promoting young musical talent." [1]
