Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc., incorporated in 2000, is a holding company with a principal operating subsidiary, Atlas Air, Inc.

Atlas Air, Inc. is a American cargo and passenger charter airline. It was founded April, 1992 by the late Pakistani American aerospace enthusiast Michael Chowdry, with an intent to specialize in long-term contract outsourcing of its Boeing 747 aircraft. Atlas Air is currently headquartered in Purchase, New York. It describes itself as "serving the airline and freight industries, commercial and military customers. We deliver the powerful combination of our efficient wide-body fleet (and) cost-efficient operations."[1]

Atlas Air reported $1,398,216,000 in total operating revenues in 2011[2] In 1995, Atlas began trading publicly on the NASDAQ, and in 1997 appeared on the New York Stock Exchange. An initial public offering of 4 million shares was made in August 1998.
