Dr Bruce Walker "is CEO of the Centre for Appropriate Technology Inc, the national Indigenous science and technology organisation. He has qualifications in science and design and technology education.

"He was involved in the early promotion of Desert Knowledge as a member of the steering committee for Desert Knowledge Australia and the Desert Knowledge CRC.

"He has worked to develop the aspirations of Indigenous people for a Desert Peoples Centre as a catalyst for change in the desert.

"Bruce has worked overseas on development projects in Tanzania, Kenya, Myanmar and Vanuatu and has written numerous reports and articles including two commissioned reports for the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission.

"He was awarded the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering Clunies Ross National Science and Technology Medal in 1999. He is a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators, a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, a Member of the NT Research and Innovation Board and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

"Until September 2005 he was an independent Director of International Development Support Services, the commercial consulting company of Oxfam Australia. He was recently appointed to the Board of the National Australia Day Council." [1]
