The Campaign to Ban Torture "was founded by the National Religious Campaign against Torture, Evangelicals for Human Rights and the Center for Victims of Torture. These three nonprofits share the vision that our nation’s fight against terrorism must reflect our character and values as Americans. Through the Declaration of Principles, this broad coalition seeks to preserve America’s ideals and regain our moral leadership by creating a national consensus to reject torture and cruelty." [1]

"Retired Rear Admiral and former Navy JAG John Hutson, Alberto Mora and Human Rights First President, Michael Posner, agreed to serve as a legal committee in drafting of the Executive Order. They recommended that we present the proposal as a Declaration of Principles which would serve as the basis for an Executive Order. CVT shared this work with the National Religious Campaign Against Torture (NRCAT) and Evangelicals for Human Rights (EHR)." [2]

"Evangelicals for Human Rights was founded in the summer of 2006 as an initiative of the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, which was seeking to broaden its anti-torture coalition to include a larger number of evangelicals. The effort was led by a four-person committee that included David P. Gushee, Ron Sider, Glen Stassen, and Rich Cizik. EHR’s mission statement is to reaffirm the centrality of human rights as an unshakable biblical obligation fundamental to an evangelical Christian social and moral vision." [3]
