The Center for Community Journalism and Development (CCJD) "was formed by a group of journalists and development workers in July 2001 and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on October 11, 2001 as a non-stock, non-profit facility for journalists working with communities, citizens, and institutions for social change." [1]

The Ford Foundation gave them a $200,000 grant "For a program on public journalism that aims to strengthen media and civil society participation in journalism and local governance" according to the Foundations 2002 Annual Report. [2]
